On Sunday May 30, 2010 Solvay Engine 22 & Car 1 (Woodworth) provided the annual stand by coverage for the Memorial Day Watch Fire at the NYS Fairground’s brown parking lot. Every year the event, which burns dirty and torn flags, draws tens of thousands of people to observe, properly discard of flags, and most importantly honor our country’s service men and women. The event is kicked off with 22 and Lakeside Engine 6’s squirts hanging the American Flag high above the entrance to the brown lot as local motorcycle clubs ride thru. Lakeside Car 2 (Kolakowski) also stood by for the duration of the ceremony. The fire, which is so large it floods OC 911 with calls of structure fires, vehicle fires, and brush fires, 911 monitors the area with the DOT cameras to lessen the call volume on the Fire Department.
