The Solvay Fire Department needs your help!
Volunteering with our agency is very rewarding and gratifying. We offer many benefits to our members that cannot be found elsewhere. When you become a member, it opens the door to almost endless training opportunities including, but not limited to, firematic classes, leadership classes, first aid classes, emergency medical classes and more. Our unique training gives you skills that go beyond the fire house.
High school and college students benefit from many scholarship opportunities offered through our fire department. Our firehouses feature state of the art computer systems and many resources for students to utilize, for study and personal use. Private conference rooms are often used for member’s study groups and a quiet place to complete school assignments and tasks. |
Being a Solvay Firefighter is a very demanding job, volunteers are called upon to answer over 1,400 calls for service annually, or about 4 calls a day, and that number is rapidly rising. Our members benefit from various down time activities at our stations and at different events throughout the year. Around the firehouse the guys and gals play basketball in the bays, utilize our state of the art gym, play X-Box or Playstation, foosball, ping-pong ball, click around on the computers, and watch movies and sports on the big screen, just to name a few. Solvay also has an active sports team, playing softball, pushball, golf, firematic races, and bowling at county-wide fire and police events throughout the year.
Joining Solvay also has financial benefits for our members. The Town of Geddes offers a property tax deduction to members that live in the district and have a minimum of 5 years of service. New York State also offers a $200 tax credit to volunteer firefighters. In addition, when you join Solvay you will also be enrolled in our retirement system. |
Becoming a volunteer brings you into a brotherhood like no other. We are all part of a tight-nit family that shows no boundaries.
