Industrial Fire | 3000 Milton Ave. | Frazer & Jones

At 2254 hours on 2/6/17, Solvay Fire, Taunton Ladder 5, and Fairmount Engine 6 (R.I.T.) were alerted to a reported fire in an industrial facility on Milton Ave. With a crew in quarters, Solvay Engine 12, Car 1, and Car 3 marked enroute quickly and arrived first to find nothing evident from the exterior of a large iron foundry. Workers at the facility directed crews to the building where the fire was reported. Engine 12 obtained a position on Side B and Engine 22 arrived and set up on side D.

Engine 12's crew made entry to the facility and encountered a heavy smoke condition throughout the entire complex. The source of the smoke was quickly found to be a large heater suspended from the ceiling with an active, natural gas fed fire. After cutting the utilities to the heater, Engine 12 and 22 were able to contain and extinguish the fire with two water cans. Command held with Engine 12 and Engine 22. All other units were returned to service. Crews remained on scene to assist in ventilating the building.
