Chemical Leak | Industrial Dr. | Solvay

An ammonia leak at a chemical company in Solvay that triggered a hazmat response is now under control.

Crews were called to Chemtrade Solutions on Industrial Parkway around 3 p.m. when employees replacing ammonia tanks noticed a leak.

Solvay Fire Chief Matt Zingaro said hazmat crews were able to lower the level of ammonia coming out of the leaky valve, but weren’t able to completely tighten it. However, Chief Zingaro said the ammonia levels are under an acceptable limit that pose no danger to employees or the public.

Chemtrade workers will finish unloading the chemicals into new tanks which should be finished by 8 p.m. Solvay Fire requested the Syracuse Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team to assist with the incident.
