This morning, Solvay Engine 12 and Rescue 11 (R.I.T.) responded to the Fairmount fire district for the report of smoke coming from an apartment. Solvay Engine 12 went enroute with 6 volunteers on dispatch and arrived third due behind Fairmount Engine 6 and Engine 7. As Fairmount began to stretch a 1.75 inch attack line, Solvay Engine 12's crew was assigned search by command. On December 13, 2015 the Solvay Fire Department hosted its first pancake breakfast in over 20 years. The committee had put in a great amount of time and it all paid off in the end. Its estimated that over 1000 people attended the event held at Sovlay Fire Department Station No. 1 located on Milton Ave. A special guest appearance was also made by Santa Claus himself in the midst of his busy schedule. In the mid afternoon hours, Solvay Fire was alerted to a possible vehicle on fire in the 400 block of Charles Ave. Engine 12 responded on dispatch with 7 volunteers and arrived to find a small SUV fully involved. Engine 12's crew quickly went to work stretching the front 150 ft bumper line and began extinguishing the fire. Engine 12 went back into service approx. 30 minutes later.
In May 2015, Solvay Fire Volunteers responded to Rt. 695 near W. Genesee St. for a reported motorcycle crash with injuries. Solvay Rescue 11 and Engine 12 were on scene moments after dispatch to find the rider in critical condition over an embankment. With the help of Rural/Metro Ambulance, the patient received some of the best and fastest emergency medical care that could be given.
