Around 0500 hours this morning, Liverpool, Moyers Corners, North Syracuse, Mattydale, and Solvay were dispatched to the 400 block of Greenpoint Ave. in Liverpool Station 2's area for the report of an apartment building on fire. An ammonia leak at a chemical company in Solvay that triggered a hazmat response is now under control. Crews were called to Chemtrade Solutions on Industrial Parkway around 3 p.m. when employees replacing ammonia tanks noticed a leak. Solvay Fire Chief Matt Zingaro said hazmat crews were able to lower the level of ammonia coming out of the leaky valve, but weren’t able to completely tighten it. Late this evening, Engine 21 responded on the initial assignment for a reported residential fire in the Warners-Memphis fire district. Initial arriving units reported fire throughout a two story, single family dwelling. Solvay Engine 21 took the RIT assignement upon arrival at the scene.
