SIGNAL 98 | SIXTH ST. | SOLVAY


At 0227 hours Sunday morning, Solvay, Taunton, and Fairmount were activated for a reported apartment fire in the Village of Solvay. Neighbors reported visible smoke and odor from the next door apartment and were advised to evacuate by 911. Solvay Engine 22 marked enroute shortly after dispatch with 5 volunteers. Solvay Car 1 (M. Zingaro) arrived first confirming smoke showing from the second floor of a 2 story multi-family dwelling. Solvay Engine 22 arrived laying in from Sixth St. and King Ave. Engine 22’s crew then stretched a 250 ft 1 ¾ inch attack line to the second floor apartment. Solvay Truck 11, Taunton Ladder 5, and Fairmount Engine 6 also responded and arrived during this time. Engine 22’s crew found fire in the rear of the apartment and quickly brought the incident under control. Crews began to ventilate the structure and the fire investigators were called. The apartment was noted to be vacant and under renovations. All units returned to service by 0600 hours. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
