METAL SCRAP FIRE | BRIDGE ST. | SOLVAY


At 1612 hours, Solvay Fire was dispatched to the area of Bridge St. near the railroad tracks for heavy smoke in the area. Solvay Engine 12 responded and arrived at 333 Bridge St. to find a large metal scrap pile on fire inside the Ben Weitsman's metal recycling facility. Engine 12's crew stretched a 200 foot pre-connect and quickly began to bring the fire under control. Solvay Engine 22 arrived and laid approx. 600 feet of 4 inch supply line to Engine 12. Both engines operated on the scene for over an hour, working with facility operations staff to ensure the fire was extinguished. Taunton Engine 6 moved up to Solvay Station 1's floor while units operated in the scene. Crews returned to service around 1730. Solvay Units Operating: Engine 12, Engine 22, Car 1 (M. Zingaro).
