In the early afternoon hours, Solvay Rescue was dispatched to Crucible Steel for a report of a worker who fell into a piece of machinery. Solvay Rescue 11 and Car 2 responded and arrived to find that a worker fell into an open vat. The worker had fallen approximately 8 feet down but was awake and talking with responders. There was no entrapment. Rescue 11 used a roof ladder to gain access to the worker and then utilized a stokes basket and 2-to-1 system to remove the worker from the vat. The worker was then transported to a local hospital by the ambulance. The worker was removed within twenty minutes of arriving on scene. All units returned to service within the hour.
