Working Fire | Piercefield Dr. | Solvay: At 0904 hours, Solvay, Taunton Ladder 5, and Fairmount Engine 6 (R.I.T.) were dispatched to Piercefield Dr. in Solvay for a cell phone caller reporting smoke coming from their neighbor’s house with one person possibly trapped inside. Solvay Engine 11 responded shortly after dispatch and was updated by Onondaga Emergency Communications that Solvay Police had arrived reporting heavy smoke showing from the rear of the residence. Solvay Police also updated responding fire units that the reported trapped occupant of the home had made their way out of the building.

Solvay Engine 11 arrived five minutes after the initial dispatch and reported smoke showing from a two story, single family dwelling. Engine 11’s crew quickly stretched the 300 ft. pre-connected hoseline to the C side of the structure while also obtaining a water supply from a hydrant located directly across from the address of the fire. Solvay Car 400 Arrived and assumed command while Engine 11’s crew made entry into the house. Solvay Engine 11’s crew quickly found extensive heat and fire conditions in a rear master bedroom and bath. Solvay Engine 11’s crew had suppressed the bulk of the fire by the eleven-minute mark and Solvay Car 2 (now in command) held the alarm at a Signal 98.

Solvay Truck 11, Fairmount Engine 6, and Taunton Ladder 5 arrived and were put to work conducting primary and secondary searches of the home, securing utilities, ventilation of smoke, and beginning overhaul. The occupant of the home was evaluated and transported by EMS to a hospital for evaluation. One cat was also rescued from the home by Solvay Engine 11’s crew. Units remained on the scene for three hours as fire investigators worked to determine a cause and crews finished mopping up. Onondaga Hill provided coverage to Solvay while units worked on the scene. All units returned to service by 1230 hours.
