The Solvay Fire Dept. offers a unique opportunity for college students attending Onondaga Community College for either Fire Protection Technology or Emergency Management. We are currently recruiting candidates for two openings for the upcoming Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 semesters. As a bunk-in students one will be assigned a duty schedule and perform daily checks of apparatus and respond to alarms the fire department is called to. This is a unique yet worthwhile experience to help reinforce the skills and knowledge learned within the classroom and then you are able to gain valuable experience in the field with a busy fire company running nearly 1500 alarms each year. if you are interested or would like more information on the program please contact our Bunk-in Coordinator Paul Veri through email at: veri880@yahoo.com

Rescue 11 Responds to MVC With Entrapment in Lakeside
Wednesday, February 6, 2013 14:54
-
Rescue 11 and Car 2 responded this afternoon to a Signal 80 rollover with entrapment in Lakeside's Fire District on I-690 WB. Rescue 11 was requested after Lakeside and Baldwinsville arrived to find a single vehicle approximately 100 feet off of the interstate on its side with two occupants still entrapped inside. Lakeside, Baldwinsville, and Fairmount had already begun extrication upon Rescue 11's arrival. Res-Q-Jacks and cribbing were used to stabilize the car and crews partially took the roof of the vehicle making access to the patients easier. Rescue 11's crew went to work preparing a way to move the patients from their location to the ambulances since there were multiple embankments and snow making it impossible to use the ambulance's stretcher. Rescue 11's crew used a Stokes basket to move both patients from the vehicle to the ambulance for transport. Units cleared the scene approx. an hour after initial dispatch of Lakeside. Units operating: Lakeside Car 1, Car 2, Rescue 5, Baldwinsville Engine 5, Fairmount Car 2, Engine 6, Solvay Car 2, Rescue 11
