SOLVAY FIRE RECEIVES AMERICAN RED CROSS REAL HEROES AWARD

In May 2015, Solvay Fire Volunteers responded to Rt. 695 near W. Genesee St. for a reported motorcycle crash with injuries. Solvay Rescue 11 and Engine 12 were on scene moments after dispatch to find the rider in critical condition over an embankment. With the help of Rural/Metro Ambulance, the patient received some of the best and fastest emergency medical care that could be given. Due to the efforts of all the first responders on scene the patient survived.

On December 2, 2015, the American Red Cross recognized the crews on Rescue 11 and Engine 12. All the volunteers that responded received the Real Heroes Medal which was presented at a breakfast held at the OnCenter in Downtown Syracuse. The firefighters that received the award were Deputy Chief Matt Zingaro, Deputy Chief David Bosco, Captain Thomas Rotella, Captain Bryan Griffen, Firefighter/EMT David Hamilton, Firefighter/EMT Tyler Spellman, Firefighter Josh Akkoul, Firefighter Kyle Kinsella, Firefighter Jeremy Cantello, Firefighter Adam Tanzella, and Firefighter Austin D’Allesandro.

These firefighters represent the values and characteristics of what our organization and volunteers do every day, most of the time without recognition. We thank the American Red Cross for the recognition as we will continue to be a premiere provider of fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to our community and those that surround us.
