Industrial Fire | Bridge St. | Solvay
At 1656 hours, Solvay Fire was dispatched to a reported vehicle on fire at a local metal scrap yard. Solvay Engine 12 quickly responded and arrived to find heavy fire conditions at the facility. Engine 12 obtained a water supply and then laid in 700 ft of 4 inch supply line. Engine 12's crew went to work stretching the 400 ft 2.5 inch line off the rear with a blitz fire. Engine 12's officer filled the assignment adding Taunton Ladder 5 and Fairmount Engine 6 as well as a request for a foam unit.
As additional units arrived a second water supply was obtained and additional lines were stretched. Command again upgraded the assignment to a Signal 99 to bring in additional manpower and apparatus to the scene and also to cover Solvay's stations. Several hundred gallons of fuel had ignited and spilled out from containers causing rapid fire spread to surrounding combustibles. As more resources arrived and went to work the fire was brought under control and contained within thirty minutes. Units remained on the scene ensuring all fire was out and then began an extensive clean-up.
Every piece of Solvay fire apparatus responded to the incident including Engine 12, Engine 22, Engine 21, Rescue 11, Truck 11, Squad 12, and Squad 21. Additionally Taunton Ladder 5, Fairmount Engine 6, Lakeside Ladder 1, and Onondaga Hill Rescue Pumper 2 responded to the scene. Liverpool was started as a foam unit but was then placed in service to stand-by at Solvay station one. Special thanks to Solvay PD, Geddes PD, AMR Ambulance, and our mutual aid companies for the assistance.
