The Great New York State Fair has officially come to an end. From the Tuesday before the fair opens at 1800 until Labor Day at 23:59 Solvay Station 4, located on the grounds of the fair, becomes our third operational firehouse. Engine 21 is relocated to the fairgrounds during this 14 day span and is staffed 24/7 by 6 Solvay Fire Volunteers who respond to any fire related alarm on the grounds. American Medical Response handles all EMS on the grounds during this period of time.
This year, Engine 21 responded to 35 alarms (8/21/18-9/3/18) during the 14 days it was staffed on the grounds. Combined, Solvay Fire personnel staffed Station 4 for a total of 4032 hours. In addition to Station 4, Solvay Station 1 and Station 2 regularly had crews in quarters (at times 2-3 crews in addition to Engine 21) ready to respond to alarms throughout the rest of Solvay and Geddes.
In total, from 8/21/18-9/3/18, the Solvay Fire Department responded to a total of 84 alarms. Not a single alarm went unanswered thanks to our dedicated 100% volunteer staff.
Did you miss us this year at the fair? Don’t worry, only 350 Days until the 2019 Great New York State Fair!
